Takafumi Hirata

Dr. Taka Hirata is an associate professor at the Arctic Research Center, Hokkaido University. He obtained MSc in Fisheries from National Fisheries University, Japan in 1998, and then PhD in Physics from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, in 2003. He worked at Plymouth Marine Laboratory, and National Centre for Earth Observation, in UK, as a research scientist. During his work, he engaged in satellite remote sensing of marine biology and biogeochemistry in context of global carbon cycle under some Earth system research projects. After he moved to Hokkaido University, he additionally engaged in numerical modelling of marine ecosystems, especially focusing on phytoplankton dynamics. He joined Arctic Research Center at the university in 2019, and have been studying the integrated assessment of marine ecosystems in the Arctic with a particular interest in natural and anthropogenic impacts on the ecosystems.
