ESSAS - Ecosystem Studies of Subarctic and Arctic Seas

Irene D. Alabia

Irene D. Alabia is a Specially Appointed Assistant Professor at the Arctic Research Center, Hokkaido University, Japan, and an Affiliate Research Assistant Professor at the International Arctic Research Center, University of Alaska Fairbanks, USA. She holds a Ph.D. in Marine Bioresource and Environmental Science from Hokkaido University and an M.Sc. in Marine Science from the University of the Philippines Diliman. Her research focuses on understanding the impacts of climate and environmental change on marine biodiversity, species distributions, and community dynamics in Arctic and subarctic ecosystems. She integrates satellite oceanography, ecological observations, and species distribution and community modelling to investigate ecosystem responses to environmental variability and forecast climate-driven changes in marine habitats.
