ESSAS - Ecosystem Studies of Subarctic and Arctic Seas

Guðbjörg Ásta Ólafsdóttir

Guðbjörg Ásta Ólafsdóttir is director and research scientist at the University of Iceland, Research Centre of the Westfjords. She completed her undergraduate studies in Biology at the University of Iceland and a PhD in Biology at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. Her expertise is in biodiversity with a emphasis on how within species diversity contributes to resilience of fish populations. To that aim Guðbjörg applies diverse ecological methods including, behavioral analysis, acoustic telemetry, stable isotope analysis and genetic analysis. Her current focus is on anthropogenic and environmental drivers of change in nearshore fish populations both in modern and historical contexts.
