ESSAS - Ecosystem Studies of Subarctic and Arctic Seas

What’s New? ESSAS Annual Science Meeting (Hakodate, Japan, January 7 – 9, 2013)

The ASM will be hosted by Hokkaido University and held at the Hakodate Community Design Center in Jyujigai, Hakodate. The general theme of this year’s meeting is “Spatial Dynamics of Subarctic Marine Ecosystems“; two oral sessions are scheduled on this topic.

Other oral sessions will focus on: bioenergetics of sub-polar fish species; Arctic-Subarctic interactions (atmospheric, oceanographic and/or ecological); human dimensions of Subarctic seas exploring fisheries and fishing communities; and modeling of Subarctic ecosystems. A session related to the new Japanese research project dealing with climate change in the Arctic will also be held. Discussions on the future directions and activities of ESSAS will also take place. Your participation is welcome, although due to the size of the venue, we will be limited to a maximum of 70 participants.

The recommended hotel accommodation is the La Vista Hakodate Bay. There is a very convenient shuttle bus from Hakodate Airport to this hotel and it is just a 10-minute walk to our meeting site. The price of this hotel ranges from $110 to $310 USD per night, including breakfast. Other hotel options appear to be available (an Internet search shows a number of hotels in the central Hakodate area). There will be a small registration fee (5,000 JP Yen / $63.000 USD) that will cover costs for the reception.
