The volume includes an introduction and eleven research papers exploring issues of integrated, long-term climate, marine ecology, and human maritime interactions spanning past centuries and millennia across the North Pacific and North Atlantic subarctic and arctic. The results have bearing on contemporary and future planning with attention to longer than the decadal and shorter scales of variability typically included in instrumental and field-based ecological analyses, resource management and future planning. Papers explore a range of topics from paleoclimate and paleoceanography, to archaeology and history, fisheries biology and management. The papers emerge from contributors’ commitments to explore long-term relationships between physical, biological and human dynamics through deep time.
