ESSAS - Ecosystem Studies of Subarctic and Arctic Seas

2018 ESSAS ASM: The Use of Satellite Imagery in Subarctic and Arctic Ecosystem Research

The ESSAS Annual Science Meeting will be held at Fairbanks, Alaska, USA from June 11-15, 2018.  The main theme of the meeting is “On the Use of Satellite Oceanography to Explore Ecosystem Dynamics in Subarctic and Arctic Regions.

We seek presentations showing the use of satellite imagery to examine the role of climate on ecosystem processes, on comparative studies between different ecosystems in the Arctic and Subarctic, tracking marine mammals, fisheries, improved methodology in satellite oceanography, etc. Other potential topics are:(1) Workshop on Arctic Gadids (primarily Boreogadus saida)(2) PaleoEcology: Continuation of the work of the ESSAS Working Group on PaleoEcology of Subarctic and Arctic Seas (PESAS)(3) Ocean Acidification: Organized by the new ESSAS Working Analogues of an Arctic in Rapid Transition (AnalogueART) – using natural analogues to investigate the effects of climate change and ocean acidification on northern ecosystems.

Details on the meeting will be updated in the coming months – stay tuned!
